From Tim's Pen. . . Many of us do not have a clear view of what our purpose in life is. And many of us are attempting to find our purpose in life by going down different avenues which all lead us to a dead end. Instead of finding our purpose, we end up frustrated and even a bit disillusioned. There is an author in the Bible who can relate to our frustration. The Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes may be one of the hardest books of the Bible to understand. In many places, it doesn’t even sound like much of the rest of the Bible. But when you read the book of Ecclesiastes, it becomes very apparent that the author has gone down several roads in order to find purpose or fulfillment or satisfaction in life. And his favorite word to describe these pursuits? The New International Version of the Bible translates it as Meaningless. The author summarizes his pursuits in chapter one, verse 14: I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. We’ve “been there, done that” in our pursuit of purpose in life. Sometimes it feels like a chasing after the wind . But it doesn’t have to be that way. Over the next several weeks, we’re going to be looking at areas of our lives in which we often try to find purpose for life. Join us for our series, Chasing After the Wind: Finding Your Purpose in Life.
